A SUPPORT group, which has restructured how they operate, is encouraging new members to attend their meetings.

Following the retirement of Sandie Jones, co-founder of the Prostate Cancer Support Group in Wrexham, the newly elected Secretary, Phil Jones, is urging people to attend the group’s next meeting, which takes place this week.

They provide support primarily for those who have been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer or on the journey to recovery following treatment. The invitations have since been widened to partners and their families. What is discussed remains totally confidential, and it is held in low key environment.

Mr Jones has said: “At a recent meeting of the Prostate Cancer Support Group and following the retirement of their leader and co-founder Sandie Jones, the group were unanimous in agreeing they needed to be in a position to be totally self-supportive in the way the group operates.

“There is no doubting that the success achieved so far is very much down to Sandie’s subtle way of keeping things together and motivating everyone. Although Sandie is committed to maintain her strong links, it was felt appropriate to be slightly more formal in the way the group operates and communicate.

“It was acknowledged that special attention needs to be given to their finances and fundraising.

“To ensure the group continues to thrive, 4 officers have been elected. Malcolm Williams will take on the role of Chairman supported by Graham Jones as Vice-Chair. Frank Maddocks will become Treasurer and I have been elected as the new Secretary with a strong focus in improving PR and communication channels and spearheading our fundraising.”

“The principal objective of this informal group is the raising of public awareness of and promotion of the cause of prostate cancer, to provide support for those men who have prostate cancer or suspect that they may have prostate cancer and their partners, carers and families, to ensure that such people know they are not alone.”

“The group next meet on Wednesday 5th June at 7pm in the upstairs function room at the Nags Head in Mount Street. New members and guests are warmly welcomed, and should you wish to hear more about the group or help with our fundraising or sponsorship call me on 07525-824-679.”
