A COMMUNITY picnic has been hailed a success after scores of residents turned out for the event.

The Rossett community picnic took place in the grounds of the village hall on Saturday, with plenty of family friendly activities taking place throughout the afternoon.

Jo Pretsell, chair of the Parks committee, said: "This is the second year that we have held a Picnic in the Park.

"It is a community event run in conjunction with The Big Lunch - an Eden project. The Big Lunch brings millions of people together across the UK to share food and fun on the first weekend in June every year.

"We had about 150 people come to the park over the time, our oldest visitor was Pip who is 96. She is deaf and came with Amy, her hearing dog!"

The event this year included a craft stall, which enabled children to make their own bunting, as well as a 'bee friendly' plant stall with a representative from the community council signing people up to take part in the 'best pollinator friendly' garden competition.

As well as a visit by Wales Blood Bikes, the crime prevention charity, Owl Cymru, held a homeless teddy bear workshop, which involved restoring pre-loved but unwanted teddy bears and using them to promote safety of people out and about in the darker nights and mornings, by re-selling them wearing bright and colourful clothing. The charity were also on hand to offer advice and guidance on doorstep crime and being safe in and out of the home.

With a cake sharing table, music and walking football, there was enough to please every taste, with a book stall even managing to raise some funds for Rossett's community cafe and outreach post office.
