THE death of a well-loved young man from Ruabon remains a mystery, an inquest heard.

Liam Luke Davies was found in the kitchen at the home of his grandfather in The Small Woods where he lived on December 12 last year.

The 26-year-old was found lying on the floor with a plastic bag next to him.

His grandfather, John Davies, attempted CPR to no avail. Mr Davies said in a statement read to the Wrexham hearing that the discovery was a “terrible shock” to him.

He said he had lost his wife, Liam’s grandmother the previous month, but felt his grandson was coping. Liam came home from his work as an Argos delivery driver and spent the evening on his computer while Mr Davies had gone out for a couple of pints.

At some point during the morning the grandfather was woken by a heavy thud and he found Liam face down on the floor of the kitchen.

A post-mortem showed a blood alcohol level just over the legal driving limit, but there were no drugs in his system.

The hearing was told the plastic bag would have been capable of going over his head, but there were no signs of asphyxia. The cause of death could not be ascertained by a pathologist.

Mr Davies said that Liam had never given him any concern about his mental health and he said had never touched illegal drugs.

North Wales Coroner East and Central John Gittins recorded an open verdict and said: “While I have nothing that indicates that the cause of death is anything other than natural I can’t reach that conclusion.”
