FOOTBALL club representatives have expressed their frustration over vandalism to their ground.

Brymbo FC, based at the Brymbo Sports and Social Complex on College Hill, have had seats in one of their stands damaged, and are asking for the public’s support to help cover the cost of replacing them.

The stand has 50 seats for spectators, but only 19 remain intact as the rest have had their plastic covers melted.

General manager of Brymbo FC, Chris Parry, said: “It’s a bit of an ongoing issue in terms of vandalism and graffiti to the stands.

“The seats have been damaged by someone, or a group of people and unfortunately we now need to cover the cost of replacing the seats.

The Leader:

“We’ve had PCSOs patrolling the area quite often in recent times to try and prevent this kind of thing, but it’s still happened.

“We think it will cost around £3,000 to replace the seats that have suffered damage in the stand, and to put some sort of fencing or protection around the stand to prevent this from happening again, we’d be looking at around another £8,000 for that as well.

“So, whoever has done this damage has potentially cost the club over £10,000 and it’s just disappointing more than anything else.

“We’ve started a Go Fund Me page because it is unfortunately going to cost a bit of money to replace what’s been damaged and any help we get from the public would be greatly appreciated.”

This is not the first instance of vandalism that Brymbo FC has encountered.

In 2017 the Leader reported on vandalism to the seats at the ground, which had been set on fire, smashed or ripped out by vandals.

The Leader:

As a result of the incident, the club has put up temporary fencing around their other stand, which has remained undamaged, in order to prevent any further vandalism from taking place.

Fundraising committee member, Andrew Reid, added: “The stand here holds 50 seats and a lot of them unfortunately have been damaged.

“There’s a lot of melted plastic, and you can see the debris left from where they’ve been melted, there’s broken glass and all sorts of general rubbish all over.

“We’re trying to raise money to refund these seats and hopefully some sort of permanent fixture of secure fencing that we can lock up when it’s not a match day.

“Hopefully that way we can stop groups of youths from congregating underneath our stands.

“On top of the obvious cost effect, the other detriment this has is that the Welsh FA stipulate that we need 100 covered seats at the ground to play in our league.

“We’re obviously down a lot of seats now so we need to get them replaced before the start of next season.”
