Llannefydd

HELEN Davies, from Llannefydd, was delighted to gain a place for the 2019 London Marathon and decided to support “Gofal Dydd” Day Care based in the Waen, near St Asaph.

Helen, a mother of four young children, said that after visiting, she felt humbled to see the care available to people of all ages living with serious illness and was inspired to do something to help and raised £2,200 for the centre.

The Day Care Centre, where volunteers also provide practical respite for people within their own homes, is run entirely by volunteers and has to raise over £25,000 a year to keep the doors open.

The centre provides two days a week of activities, including crafts, gardening, baking, painting, card making, talks, singing, Tai Chi and complementary therapies.

Additionally, on a Tuesday, a free crèche for children from 18 months to four years shares activities with the day care.

A spokesman said: “We are so grateful to Helen for this wonderful donation.

"We are a very small group with no paid staff and it is very difficult for us to arrange fundraising events in addition to providing the care.

"Helen is an amazing person and everyone was delighted when she visited to present the cheque and bought along her medal and photos of the marathon."
