A NEW BBC series sees fishing fanatic Will Millard on a quest to find the world's rarest shark in waters off Anglesey.

The second episode of Go Fish! airs this Friday, and focuses on the controversial world of shark fishing in the Celtic Deep.

Home to up to 40 shark species, Welsh waters are a hotspot for big specimens and Will is looking to land one.

He also delves deep into the ethics of the sport and finds out more about the role that fishing plays in the preservation of the country’s shark population.

His journey will take him to Milford Haven, Porthmadog and Anglesey where he searches for the angel shark, one of the rarest in the world, and lives off the coast of Wales.

He meets an array of anglers to experience what it’s like to catch the ultimate underwater predator, as well as the conservationists who are working with fishing communities to monitor them.

Speaking about the series, Will said; “With its rugged coastline, wild rivers and mountain lakes, Wales is an angler’s paradise.

"I’m heading out, rod in hand, to explore the hidden depths of our country and its people, as well as fulfilling a lifelong passion to catch some of the most iconic fish in Wales.

"I want to meet the people who treasure these waters, hear their stories and make some friends for life.”

Speaking about the episode, he continued: “Most people don’t realise what’s beneath our oceans, but the coast of Wales is a paradise for marine life with crystal clear waters full of surprising creatures.

In this journey I headed to the rich waters around the island of Anglesey, the shark mecca of Milford Haven, and the mega-marine superhighway the ‘Celtic Deeps’ in an attempt to catch the biggest predator of my life.”

The four-part series sees Will Millard travel Wales in search of four of the country’s most iconic fish with each episode focusing on a different species.

The first episode saw him search for the shy sewin, while the following episodes will see him fish for giant carp and look to land the prehistoric pike.

The episode will air Friday, June 28, on BBC One Wales at 7.30pm and will be available on the BBC iPlayer.
