THE community of Holywell has dug deep to help a Henllan teenager battling bone cancer.

Ysgol Glan Clwyd pupil Alisha Hoyles, 15, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in March this year following a visit to her doctor for what she thought was growing pains in her left knee.

The Henllan teen’s family have completed numerous fundraisers conducted across North Wales; including a sponsored head shave, running a Pretty Muddy race in Wrexham and a 177-mile walk the Offas Dyke path in Chepstow on Saturday, June 8.

Dawn Davies, who helped organise a charity bingo night, told the Leader that the event will include live music and a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses including vouchers for beauty treatments, champagne, festival vouchers and hampers.

She said: “The people of Holywell have been so generous whilst we have been out fundraising with our buckets in the street and spreading Alisha’s story further and further. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that has given money.”

Dawn told the Leader that during their additional collections in Holywell, the family have raised a massive £850 towards their overall target of £2,500

All of these fundraising activities combined with have helped the family exceed their £2,500 goal on crowdfunding site Just Giving which stands at more than £4,780 at the time of publishing – almost double their original target.

Following her current course of treatment, Alisha will undergo leg and knee reconstruction in Birmingham in the hope of saving her leg, before another 20 sessions of chemotherapy at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

The bingo night will take place on Friday June 28, at 7pm in the Packet House pub in Greenfield.
