A NEW boat has been named and launched on Llangollen canal over the weekend following a £128,000 donation.
Humanitarian campaigner Terry Waite CBE, who is also president of the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, was on hand to unveil the Vale of Llangollen Canal Boat Trust’s Girl Winifred boat on Sunday afternoon.
An anonymous woman donated the huge sum to the Trust which will now enable them to continue to take disabled people across the Pontcysyllte aqueduct.
The Lady Winifred boat is named after benefactor Winifred Hudd from Deganwy, Conwy and was built in Stoke-on-Trent.
It was launched amid celebrations marking a decade since the aqueduct and canal’s gaining UNESCO World Heritage Site status.
Mr Waite hailed the Vale of Llangollen Canal Boat Trust’s work as a “wonderful venture”.
