AN awarding time has taken place in the Dee Valley.

Corwen Ladies FC held their presentation evening last Thursday, July 4 at the newly revamped Blue Lion Hotel, in Cynwyd.

In glorious weather, the awards event was held outside and a great evening was had by all.

Team manager Huw Jones thanked everyone who played last season, with the ladies' team reaching two cup semi-finals and only losing two league matches all campaign.

With it being the team's first season in senior football, this was an outstanding achievement by such a young side.

Before presenting various trophies to the players, Jones also thanked all of his fellow coaches, parents and helpers for their support throughout the season.

All of this helps to give the Corwen ladies and girls club a unique team bond of everyone pulling together for success in women’s football in the locality.

As well as the ladies' team, Corwen will field U-16s, U-14s and U-12s teams next season, which is terrific for the future of the club. which shows a great future now and beyond.

Sponsorship will continue to come from Carole Derbyshire-Styles, from Vintage Styles, of Bridge Street, Corwen.

Huw said: “(We are) delighted that a local company has taken interest in sponsoring ladies' football in the Corwen area, as well as the Grouse Inn, Carrog helping out with sponsorship in our girls' section.”

Lastly, the manager introduced Corwen Ladies' major signing for next season.

Alaw Davies Smith has joining the club from Welsh Premier League outfit Rhyl Ladies and she will be taking the role of player / coach at Corwen.

An excellent acquisition to squad, Alaw was the Welsh Premier League's player of the year two years ago and her experience and knowledge of senior football will only make a good Corwen team even better.

Hopefully, the club will be able to announce a few more signings shortly to bolster the squad.
