A PRIMARY school is celebrating after receiving a glowing report from Estyn where they were rated excellent in all areas.

Ysgol Twm o’r Nant in Denbigh, which looks after 304 pupils between three and 11 and 40 part-time nursery age pupils, was rated excellent by inspectors in Standards, Wellbeing and attitudes to learning, Teaching and learning experiences, Care, support and guidance and Leadership and management.

The report stated: "The school is a highly caring and friendly community. Nearly all pupils’ standards of wellbeing and attitudes to learning are excellent.

"Nearly all pupils behave very well. They treat their peers, staff and visitors with a great deal of courtesy and respect.

"This is characteristic of the constructive and supportive relationship that exists across the school community.

"As a result, nearly all pupils, including those with additional learning needs, make sound and consistent progress, which at least corresponds to what is expected, while many exceed this progress.

"The headteacher provides strong leadership, which focuses clearly on pupils’ wellbeing and standards.

"He has high expectations, and this can be seen clearly around the school. One of the school’s excellent features is the way in which all members of staff work exceptionally well together."

Headteacher Darren Booth Taylor was appointed to the post in September 2016

Alwena Tomos, chair of governors, said: "There’s a real sense of family at Twm o’r Nant. We know our children and families very well and they play an integral part in school life. We want to enrich the lives of our pupils by providing a top quality education, coupled with plenty of opportunities for personal development.

“This report clearly shows the value of the work going on at Twm o’r Nant. A proud day for all of us involved in the running of the school and I must pay tribute to the headteacher and the whole staff for their commitment and dedication."

Councillor Huw Hilditch-Roberts, cabinet lead member for Education, Children, Young People and Public Engagement, said: “This report makes extremely positive reading and to be rated excellent across the board is a fantastic achievement.

"The report really reflects the hard work going on at the school to improve literacy and numeracy, with standards a particular strong focus of the report. The document also highlights the efforts and pastoral care offered to encourage children to be the best they can be and to encourage youngsters to be confident, mature and independent for the future."
