FIREFIGHTERS were sent to put out roadside vegetation that was set on fire by a discarded cigarette on Tuesday afternoon.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it received a report of the fire on the A470 in Betws-y-Coed just after 3pm.
The rural single carriageway, which runs alongside the popular tourist location, has tree and hedge-lined embankments on either side.
A fire service spokesperson said: "We sent one crew to the fire at 3.15pm and it was extinguished by 3.54pm. The fire was caused by smoking material, most likely discarded by a motorist."
The fire service said it is "normal" to see a rise in fires in the countryside during the summer period due to heat and dryness, however it added that some are caused unnecessarily.
