DAVE Davies became the Dave Bonnett Memorial Trophy champion for the first time to continue his fine 18 months on the local Denbigh circuit.

The day started as usual with the four groups of eight, with four darters from each section advancing to the last-16 stage.

Davies topped group one, with Sion Watsham, Deian Roberts and Dale Jones also progressing, while Glyn Lloyd was at the head of group two.

Danny Tinney was top dog in group three followed by the impressive Rachel Kingdon and Dil Martin, while former champion Rich Martin recorded a 100 per cent winning record in group four.

The last-16 stage saw the favoured Danny Tinney toppled by the in-form Gary Williams, and Deian Roberts lost out 3-2 to Eifion Hughes.

Fifteen-year-old Bradley Roberts' great day was ended by Dave Davies, while Rich Martin survived a five-leg thriller with Shane Evans.

Dave Davies continued his supreme day with a 3-1 quarter-final victory over Dylan Anderson and Glyn Lloyd showed his mettle with a five-leg victory over Gary Williams to advance to his first ever semi-final.

Davies was almost flawless on his doubles in his 3-0 win over Rich Martin in the last-four, while Lloyd hit a 104 finish and a maximum in his success over Dilwyn Martin.

In a top quality best-of-seven final, Davies defeated Lloyd 4-2.
