IT HAS gone from frightening to brightening in a matter of days.

Thursday, July 25 the Met Office tweeted: "We have broken our maximum July temperature record".

They added: "The Met Office 38.1°C has been recorded at Cambridge; this is only the second time temperatures over 100 Fahrenheit have been recorded in the UK #heatwave."

Today, temperatures reached 30° in Rhyl and 29° in Colwyn Bay.

On Tuesday night (July 23), thunderstorms swept across much of the UK.

Amateur photographer Thomas Davies took these incredible pictures.

He said: "The storm started getting close to Rhyl about 11.30pm, so I headed out to Rhyl harbour but no luck getting any pictures from there.

"I decided to head to Rhuddlan and try and get the castle in view, but the storm was kinda on and off for a good hour.

"I thought I would travel to Cwm, Dyserth. When the major part the storm came in from the South, I positioned the camera facing towards Denbigh around 1.15am and captured some cloud to ground lightning strikes.

"I left Cwm about 2.10am and stopped off on the Dyserth bends between Dyserth and Rhyl to see if I managed to capture any last lot of lightning strikes," he added.

"My camera was facing towards Dyserth while other flashes going on round North East towards Prestatyn.

"I managed to get one more cloud to ground shot behind Moel Hiraddug before the storm went quiet about 3am."
