VALE of Clwyd athletes have been going Green!

The Green Green Grass of Home midweek fell race was held in Llangynhafal last week.

The race was organised by Denbigh Harrier Tony Benton and it used the Golden Lion as it’s race HQ.

The hot temperatures during the day had fallen only slightly in time for the evening start.

This didn’t seem to be daunting to anybody and a record 99 runners turned out for this trek up and down the Clwydian hills along some rarely trodden tracks and paths, before descending steeply across open heath to the finish.

Despite getting lost, Dan Jones was the first Harrier home in 23rd place in 54.56.

Next home was Kay Baugh in 47th (the fifth woman) in 58.14, followed by Peter Lester-Owen (70th in 62.24), Fred Jones (71st in 62.39), Menai Baugh (76th in 64.20) and Ruari Benton (81st in 65.11).

The Clwydian 10-mile race was held on Sunday, with the Clwydian 20 being cancelled due to the poor visibility and conditions.

Just two Denbigh Harriers braved the wet conditions.

Victoria Whitehead finished in seventh place overall and the first lady in two hours and two minutes.

Luke Hughes was 18th in 2-15, only a week after he raced the Snowdon International.

The Helena Tipping 10k, in Wrexham, looked like it would be raced in very damp conditions with puddles on the course, however for the race itself, conditions improved, which resulted in some great times.

As this was the North Wales 10k Championship race, the field was competitive, so it was great news that three of the four Denbigh Harriers running came away with prizes.

Emma Collins won the F55 category, over five minutes ahead of the next runner.

Mel Morris was the second F45 in a closely fought race, while Fred Jones was the runner-up in the M60 category.

Harriers' results: 116, Emma Collins 43.30; 132, Mathew Jones 44.33; 154, Melina Morris 45.22; 190, Fred Jones 47.35.

Parkrun results:
