PRAISE should go to the club handicappers!

The August Denbigh Harriers handicap race was well contested, with the first 10 runners finishing with a minute of each other.

The course was slightly longer than previous races due to a diversion, so times were slower for everyone.

John Llewelyn Thomas was the winner this month after putting in a sprint finish to hold off the fast finishing Arwel Jones and Mel Morris.

The fastest times on the night went to Tony Wood for the men and Mel Morris for the women.

With only two races to go in the series, there are six or seven Harriers in with a chance of winning the series.

Tony Wood and Victoria Whitehead are in strong positions, with Ruari Benton Tony Benton, Luke Hughes, Bob Neale and Arwel Jones in contention.

Results: 1, John Llewelyn Thomas 33.51; 2, Arwel Jones 25.13; 3, Melina Morris 22.48.

Wednesday saw four Denbigh Harriers enjoying a beautiful and sunny evening for the Caernarfon 10k.

There was a light south-westerly breeze behind the runners for the final 4k of the event, with fantastic views of Snowdonia's mountains and the Llyn Peninsular.

There were two well deserved age category prizes for Duncan Jones (M60) and Menai Baugh (F60).

This year, the race was run clockwise with the hills at the beginning, which many thought would be easier.

However, everyone found the final flat 4k on the Menai straights hard work.

A special mention should go to new member Carys Davies, who ran the race in 51.29 having completed the North Wales half-marathon just three days earlier.

Harriers' results: 35, David Baugh 42.41; 76, Duncan Jones 48.09 (first M60); 108, Carys Davies 51.29; 128, Menai Baugh 54.21 (first F60).

Denbigh Harriers competed in a trio of North Wales parkruns over the weekend.

Conwy: 181, John Llewelyn Thomas 31.35.

Wepre: 15, David Baugh 22.36; 34, Elen Baugh 25.51; 59, Menai Baugh 29.04.

Pont y Bala: 38, Chris Baldwin 28.20.
