IT is the best year ever for Ruthin School regarding A level and AS level results.

The school has had another outstanding year with a very high proportion of students gaining the top grades at A level.

The number of A* and A grades at A level has increased by over 10 per cent.

In addition, nearly all 84 students in the upper sixth form will now be able attend a university ranked in the top-10 in the UK.

Five students have had offers confirmed at Cambridge and Oxford universities, while 56 students achieved three or more A*/A grades, compared to 32 back in 2018.

Some 98 per cent of all grades were at A*-B, up from 90 per cent last year, while 82 per cent of all grades are at A*-A.

In all, 35 per cent of all grades are at A*, up two per cent from 2018.

The top performing student was Stephany Zhang, who achieved five A*s and she will go on to study engineering at Cambridge.

Achieving four A*s were Serena Ma, Kelly Ding, Irene Hou, Hugh Tian and Owen Yau.

At AS level, the results were similarly impressive, with a high number of lower sixth students gaining top grades.

A total of 46 out of the 108 students in the lower sixth achieved A grades in all subjects.

Erika Han was the top lower sixth student, achieving 799/800 marks across all her AS level subjects.

Ruthin School principal Toby Belfield said: "The students have worked extremely hard to achieve these outstanding results and the support provided by the academic staff, across all subjects, is exceptional.

"As Ruthin School continues to go from strength to strength, we are proud of our robust academic education that will provide our students with many opportunities in the future.

"Congratulations to all students at Ruthin School who received their results today. A fantastic achievement!"
