Llandudno’s promenade generated more parking revenue than any other car park or street in north Wales, according to figures released by councils in the region.
A freedom of information request found Conwy Council raked in £353,350 from on-street parking charges at the promenade between April 2018 and March 2019 – almost double that generated by its nearest rival.
Llandudno, which benefits to the tune of £740m thanks to tourism, was recognised by Tripadvisor in 2014 as the number eight UK holiday destination.
Second was the main car park in Barmouth, which brought in £297,158.66 over the 12-month period.
Despite this, only £282,391.15 fell into the coffers of Gwynedd Council due to £14,767.51 being payable to Barmouth Town Council. Bodhyfryd carpark in Wrexham, was third bringing in £239,503.62 to the county borough council.
A spokesperson for Conwy Council said that income from pay and display machines helped keep the roads “safe, clean and attractive.”“The charges on The Parade in Llandudno are payable between 10am and 4pm.
“Demand for spaces on The Parade is high during the day, and pay and display charges help manage the demand for parking in such busy areas.“Income from pay and display contributes to keeping Conwy’s roads safe, clean and attractive.”
