POLICE have shut down an illegal rave that was planned to take place at a forest near Ruthin on Friday.

North Wales Police said it issued a Public Order Act at Clocaenog Forest where the four-day party had been organised without legal consent.

“Police are on scene near Ruthin clearing the site of an organised party/rave which has been planned between the 23rd and 27th of this month,” a police spokesperson said.

The Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 applies to open air gatherings of 20 or more people at which amplified music is played during the night, which is likely to cause "serious distress" to nearby inhabitants. The act also applies to such events on trespassed land.

The police spokesperson added that anyone travelling to or planning to attend the site is advised not to.
