The Druid Inn, Gorsedd, has been named a finalist in a pubs in bloom competition for the second year running.

Thwaites Brewery organises the competition every year to showcase pubs that are drawing in visitors through their floral decorations.

It is open to all 250 Thwaites pubs around the country and six were shortlisted.

Cliff and Sarah Elson of The Druid Inn have around 1,600 flowers and plants on display, creating a riot of colour.

Judge Toni Naylor, Pubs Marketing Executive, said: “It’s been a pleasure to go around to see our pubs for this competition - they all looked fantastic and it was easy to see why they made the final.

“The Druid Inn looked like a picture postcard with so many flowers and it really put the pub at the heart of the village. Everywhere you looked there were planters and hanging baskets.

“It is a clearly a labour of love for Cliff - his passion to keep the pub looking so beautiful was really clear to see.”

Cliff said: “We had more than doubled the number of plants from last year. I have grown a lot myself from plugs and seeds and I spend around four hours a day tending to them to make sure they always look fantastic.

“It really helps brighten the village up, we have a lot of people stopping and commenting on how lovely the pub looks.

“We are really proud to be part of our village and we want people to go away and say what a lovely place it is to visit.”
