A FIRST round loss marked the weekend for Mark Webster in European Tour action.

The great and the good of the PDC descended on Vienna for this year's Austrian Darts Championship.

The £140,000 tournament was held at the Multiversum Schwechat and Webster's first round opponent was world youth champion Dimitri Van den Bergh.

He recorded the day's highest average of almost 102 as he saw off the Denbigh dartist by a 6-3 margin.

Home hero Mensur Suljovic took glory on Sunday with a rousing comeback from 6-3 down to win the final against world number one Michael van Gerwen 8-7.

Having never previously won a stage match in his home city, the Austrian number one rose to the challenge as he claimed his third PDC European Tour title, scooping a £25,000 top prize.

“This is the best win of my career,” said Suljovic. “It’s the first time I’ve ever won a game on stage in Vienna and I won the event – it’s absolutely brilliant.

“Michael is the number one, but in the four-week holiday I’ve practised every day and I was hungry. To win a European Tour event in my city is amazing, my biggest win.”

Looking ahead, it will be a busy few weeks for Webster.

The Barnsley Metrodome will play host to two Players' Championship events on Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11.

The Yorkshire venue will also host a pair of Players' Championship tournaments on September 21 and 22, preceded by a European Tour qualifier on September 20.

There will also be four Players' Championship events in October.
