RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 2,534 prime lambs to 214.3ppk / £94; 632 cull ewes and rams to £80 and eight prime heifers to 226ppk / £1,246.53.

New season lambs:

Another good entry of 2,534 lambs.

Well covered fed lambs attracted a premium.

Mold primestock sale - September 9

THERE were entries of 269 beef and cull cows.

Beef trade was back again, with cull cows continuing to meet excellent demand.

Lambs were harder work.

Ruthin store and breeding stock sale - September 5

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of four in-calf heifers to £840; 137 store cattle to £1,285; 66 calves to £390; 1,061 store lambs to £100; 991 breeding ewes to £280 and 45 breeding rams to £441.

Calves (auctioneer: Dafydd Parry):

A total of 66 calves were entered and there was a large another buzz around the sale ring.

A strong entry of Limousin bull calves topped at £390 for a six-week old calf.

Another local vendor sold another shapely Limousin calf at £300.

Friesian bull calves sold to £65 with competitive bidding for the friesians throughout the sale.

British Blue calves topped at £330 for a 2 month old bull calf.

Other entries included a calf at £280 for a 4 week old from a local vendor.

A returning vendor from Anglesey had a consignment of British blue heifers and bulls selling between £220 and £340.

All vendors were going away happy with their cheques with a 100 per cent clearance again.

More calves could have been sold with buyers looking for more on a weekly basis.

Buyers range from Anglesey to Gwynedd, to Cheshire and Shropshire, to Worcestershire.

Store cattle (auctioneers: Emyr Lloyd and Glyn Owens):

There was an increased entry, with many more to come over the next few weeks.

Trade remained firm on all types.

Heifers: 26m Limousin to £1,090 by J E & W I Owen; 13m Limousin to £840; 19m Simmental x to £795; 22m Simmental x to £950; 16m Charolais to £900; 23m Brit Blue to £780; 24m Welsh Black to £820.

Store lambs: There was an excellent trade on store lambs together with good numbers forward.

Breeding ewes:

There was a good entry of almost 1,000 ewes.

A fantastic trade throughout and 100 per cent clearance.

Quality pure Texel shearling ewes from Rhiwlas, Saron advertised pre sale achieved £255 and £280.

Another advertised entry of Charollais ewes from Cheshire achieved £205.

Prices included: Texel x yearling ewes sold to £190; Texel 2 year old to £185; Cross Bred to £142; Lleyn yearlings to £84; Suffolk ewes to £136.

Breeding rams:

A very good entry of 45 breeding rams, including Texel, Charollais, Beltex and Suffolk yearlings.

The increase in demand was apparent, with Texel shearlings realising £441, Charolais to £378 and Beltex to £367.50.

Increased entries as per usual are expected weekly.

Mold stock sale - September 6

THERE was a cracking show of cattle again, with numbers increasing each week.

Trade seemed to firm, with cattle looking well sold compared to the trend of finished prices.

Plenty of buyers and interest in the dairy section, a firm trade throughout.

More calves forward and a packed ringside of buyers resulted in a sharp trade from start to finish.
