A CHAIRMAN has taken his last journey in the role... in a Massey Ferguson!

Dafydd Jones, the Wales YFC chairman, has finished the YFC year by travelling around counties in a Massey Ferguson tractor ahead of the organisation’s AGM last weekend.

He began his journey, which was in aid of Wales Air Ambulance, on Wednesday, September 11 from his home county of Meirionnydd.

This is a special place for him, as it’s where his YFC journey began, in his local club of Bryncrug.

His successes in YFC have developed over the years.

Back in 2016, he won the Wales YFC senior member of the year competition and then developed his work with the organisation, becoming Wales YFC rural affairs committee chairman.

He began his stint as the Wales YFC chairman last September.

From Meirionnydd, he headed to the northern counties of Eryri, Ynys Môn and Clwyd, before travelling down through the middle of the country to Montgomery, Radnor and Brecknock.

Gwent and Glamorgan were his next stops, before heading west to Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, and landing in Ceredigion in Aberystwyth on Friday evening, just in time for the beginning of a very busy AGM weekend.

The AGM weekend kick-started with ‘Gig Ola’r Ha’’ hosted by Ceredigion YFC on the Friday evening.

Meetings then began on the Saturday morning with the Annual General Meeting, and sub-committee meetings then took place during the afternoon.

On the Saturday evening, the chairman hosted a ball for members and supporters, before ending the weekend with the council meeting on Sunday.

The tractor was kindly loaned by Massey Ferguson through its dealer Brodyr Evans, and this is proof of the continuing close relationship between the company and Wales YFC, as corporate sponsors of the organisation.

Dafydd met with Massey Ferguson suppliers on the journey to thank them for their support to the young farmers in Wales.

He also met representatives from each YFC federation, to find out what each county’s highlights were of the previous year.

Speaking about his journey, Dafydd Jones said: "The adventure around Wales in the Massey Ferguson tractor will hopefully be a successful end to the great year I have had as Wales YFC chairman.

"It’s great that we have partnered with Massey Ferguson for this and I look forward to meeting some of the suppliers.

"As well as this, meeting members on my journey will be an important part, as the members really are the foundation of our organisation and its success."

Lindsay Haddon, Massey Ferguson advertising and sales promotion manager, added: "It has been a pleasure working with Dafydd over the last year and we are thrilled that he has chosen to make his swansong journey as chairman in an MF tractor to raise money for Wales Air Ambulance.

"He has done a super job in spearheading Wales YFC’s mission to support and inspire rural youth and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership with the organisation."

Wales YFC would like to thank Massey Ferguson once again for supporting the organisation.
