NEWLY promoted Wigan were unfortunate so early in the season to come up against West Park that proved too hot to handle, especially in the second half of this 10 try contest.
Park triumphed 57-14, although the first half saw a much more even score line, an early try by the visitors was readily cancelled out by tries from Ainsworth and Green, both converted by Rosney, who added a penalty to give Park a lead of 17 points to 7 at the interval.
In the second half the home side’s superior fitness and willingness to run the ball proved too much for the opposition, and excellent interplay between backs and forwards resulted in a further six tries,
Wigan’s only response being via an interception try.
Centre Green added another try to his first half score, with Rosney, Pape, Hill , Jones and Loughnane all crossing to register points, with stand off Rosney having a continuing influence on the match converting five of these six second half tries, bringing his personal points tally to 22 for the match.
West Park showed some excellent attacking ability right across the team, with scrum half Smith also disrupting and thus nullifying many of the oppositions set scrum moves, perhaps therefore shading him for the man of the match accolade.
On Saturday Park travel to Ormskirk, another recruit to the ADM Premier division, and will be looking to continue their rugby in the same vein .
