A DANCE school that has shuffled and pirouetted since 1959 has celebrated another decade in the Vale of Clwyd.

Ballet, disco and tap dancing are taught by the Adele Meads School of Dance and Performing Arts in Denbigh, which has been family-run ever since it was established by Adele Meads, who died two years ago.

It has seen hundreds of dancers whirl in and out of its doors, including West End and Broadway stars such as Mark Evans, Amber Davies, Jade Davies and Hannah Jackson. They get to learn various genres that also include modern and lyrical dance, as well as musical theatre, and take exams with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and Allied Dance Association (ADA).

The school is now run by Adele’s daughter Patsy Rees and granddaughter Fiona, who is also an experienced examiner. They recently led summer school programmes with Adam Garcia, the Australian tap dancer and theatre actor known for his roles as a judge on the popular TV dance show Got to Dance and cult film Coyote Ugly, as well as acclaimed dancer Wayne Sleep, the shortest male dancer admitted into the Royal Ballet School, who has worked with the British Shakespeare Company.

Teachers, students and their families gathered to celebrate the school’s anniversary at its studio on Chapel Street.

“We are very proud of our school and it’s success over the 60 years and long may it continue,” Fiona said. “The celebration was fantastic and very well supported. We had pupils, parents and previous students and everyone had a fabulous time.”

The Adele Meads School of Dance and Performing Arts is set to start Silver Swan ballet classes for people over the age of 50.

Its students are also set to perform Chance to Shine at Rhyl Pavilion in November.
