Ruthin store and breeding stock sale - September 19

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of six cows and calves to £1,980; 96 store cattle to £1,020; 61 calves to £370; 1,779 store lambs to £68.50; 800 breeding ewe lambs to £112; 2,2969 breeding ewes to £142 and 116 breeding rams to £472.50.

Calves (auctioneer: Dafydd Parry):

A total of 61 were entered, including consignments of Limousin, British Blue, Friesian, Norwegian Red Cross, Stabiliser x, Aberdeen Angus x and Hereford Cross.

There were two six-week-old Limousin bull calves that topped the day by Grugor Uchaf selling for £370.

A four-week-old Limousin calf achieved £280, with another six-week-old, but a heifer this time, selling for £325.

A consignment of four 3-week-old Limousin heifer calves from Abergele sold to £260.

The British Blue section was topped at £340 for a five-week-old bull calf achieving £340. A 4 week old bull was to £300.

Friesian bull calves to £70.

More calves could have been sold, with buyers looking for more on a weekly basis.

Store cattle (auctioneers: Emyr Lloyd and Glyn Owens):

Heifers: 15m Charolais to £1,020 by R Roberts, Bryn Ffanigl; 18m Charolais to £970; 20m Limousin to £990; 19m Limousin to £980; 28m Limousin to £880; 22m Brit Blue to £915; 22m Simm x to £760.

Steers: 14m Limousin to £1,150 by G O Jones, Maes y Groes; 23m Limousin to £1,040; 26m Limousin to £960; 21m Brit Blue to £1,100; 29m Brit Blue to £1,040; 19m Brit Blue to £1,000; 22m Hereford to £900; 23m Hereford to £890.

Weanling cattle:

Following the previous week’s excellent entry and trade, the auction had a good entry of 40 stirks.

5m Limousin bulls to £545; 6m Limousin bulls to £480; 5m Brit Blue bulls to £460; 9m Brit Blue bulls to £440; 8m FKX male to £425; 4m Hereford to £260.

Another sale of weanling cattle will be held in October.

65 month British blue cow with 4m BBX calf to £1,980; 54 month Hereford cow with 5m BB heifer calf to £1,230.

Store lambs:

Excellent entry once again and a very good trade, with an alley full of buyers.

Charolais to £68.50, Texel to £66.50, Suffolk to £46.00, Cheviot to £45.00 Mule to £56.00, Welsh to £44.00, Cross Bred to £44.50.

More could have been sold.

Breeding ewe lambs:

A total of 800 forward sold very well, with a 99 per cent clearance.

Texel ewe lambs sold to £111 with mules to £85, returning an average of £81.18.

As with the store lambs, more are required to meet the current demand.

Breeding ewes:

A market full of breeding ewes forward, which included the annual sale of Beulah ewes.

There was also an increased entry of Welsh ewes forward which were in keen demand.

Texel to £146, Mule to £142, Lleyn to £62, Welsh to £68, Suffolk to £142, Cross Bred to £100, Beltex to £184 and Cheviot to £70.

In the Beulah section, yearling ewes sold to £112, 2/3 year old to £84, ¾ year old to £80, Full Mouth to £70.

Again, more could have been sold in this section.

Breeding rams:

An increased entry as expected of 116 multibreed rams.

Texel shearlings to 450gns, Texel 4T to 440gns, Texel Ram Lambs to 420gns, Beltex shearlings to 400gns, Charolais shearlings to 380gns, Blue Texel 6T to 350gns.

In the Beulah rams section, full mouth rams sold to 200gns and 2 year old also to 200gns.

Large entries expected again over next few weeks.

St Asaph livestock market - September 19

NEW season lambs (2,296):

A smaller entry were a fantastic trade on the week.

The trade was good on all sorts, but especially so on the best and larger lambs.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sals of 2,777 prime lambs to 212.5ppk / £91; 714 cull ewes and rams to £99 and 12 prime cattle to 222ppk / £1,173.95.

New season lambs:

There was another good entry of 2,777 lambs.

Well covered fed lambs and medium weight category attracted a premium.
