DESPITE 'awful' weather, spirits remained high during a school's charity triathlon.

Pupils from Ysgol Llywelyn, Bryn Hedydd, y Castell, Emmanuel, Christchurch, Dewi Sant and Esgob Morgan took part in the Rhyl Learning Community School Triathlon at the Marine lake.

Athletes from seven schools competed in all three events. A relay team and staff team followed.

Emma Parry, event organiser, said: "This has become an event that brings the whole community together.

A relay team and staff team followed and entertained the crowds along the way!

"We are supported by many volunteers who, like me, just want to give our children the opportunities and challenges involved in taking part in a triathlon, something that they would rarely get the chance to do."

Money was raised for Hope House Children’s Hospice, CLIC sargent and Ysgol Tir Morfa's Hydrotherapy pool appeal.

Mrs Parry added: "It’s just amazing to see so many people coming together for this unique event."

Osian Barton, aged 10, a pupil at Ysgol Llywelyn, said: "Before the start, I was really nervous.

"When I was on the bike I knew if I saved up some energy I could win it on the run. I was so proud of myself."
