A GALA occasion turned out to be a successful one for Vale of Clwyd swimmers.

Denbigh Dragons swimmers made a splash once again at the Swim Wales north relay gala.

The event took place at the Llandudno swim centre and it attracted a number of big clubs from right across the region, including Clwb Nofio Bangor and Wrexham Swimming Club.

A team from Denbigh Dragons representing all ages from 7-18 came together to embrace club spirit, with older, experienced swimmers supporting their young colleagues to develop confidence and racing skills.

Denbigh racers bagged a slew of medals in eight separate categories.

There was gold for the girls in the 10 and under 200m freestyle, and a silver in the 10 and under 200m medley relay.

In addition, there were silver medals for the boys in the 17 and over 400m freestyle and 400m medley, and also for the mixed cannon 200m medley.

Third-placed medals went to the mixed 14 and under 200m medley, girls 14-16 400m medley, and the mixed 14 and under 200m free-style.

There were sensational performances from Dragons new and old, a real cause for optimism for the coming season.
