A CONNAH'S Quay teenager joined the nation in raising awareness of mental health on the national day of recognition.

Lydia Rigby took to the stage to perform at GT's Bar and Grill on Wepre Lane on World Mental Health Day.

The event saw a pop-up record shop set up and live performances from 5pm until 10pm.

Mum Laura said her daughter was approached by Andrew Knox of Knox Boosh playlists when he asked her to perform.

The aim of the event was to raise awareness of mental health and well-being within the Deeside community.

Laura said: "Lydia is training to be a mental health nurse so this does mean a lot to her.

"She's been singing for about six months now.

"It was really good for her, loads of people turned up. I couldn't be more proud, even if I tried.

"She's even just recorded her own songs which she has written herself at 1619studios with Cal Roberts. That will soon be uploaded onto YouTube. She's doing really well."

Andrew Knox organises events like this with the aim of raising awareness of mental health.

He added: "It went really well. We had around 40 people turn up which is good for a Thursday night.

"A lot of people recognised why we were doing it and the importance of it.

"I've struggled myself in the past and got a lot of support so I want to raise funds for local mental health charities for people who can't get that help and support immediately.

"Everything I do is battling mental health with the power of music."
