THE FAMILY of a man who died a week after being involved in a serious road traffic collision near Northop has paid tribute to a "caring family man."

Michael James Clancy, 74, who was from the Connah’s Quay area, died following the collision which happened on the B5126 Mold Road near Northop shortly before 6pm on Monday, September 30.

In paying tribute, his family said: “Michael J.T Clancy aka ‘Tes’ was a loving, kind and caring family man who was an inspiration to all around him. Showing immense support towards his family – he encouraged them to be the best people they could be.

“He had an extensive 44 year military career after serving in the RAF, Army and UN. He was well loved within the local community, helping many throughout his life. He was a devout Roman Catholic and volunteered so much for the church.

“He was the greatest husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother and brother-in-law. He will be missed by all around him.”

Sergeant Nicola Grimes-Williams of the Roads Policing Unit said: “We’re continuing to investigate the collision which involved a Toyota and a Chevrolet.

“Mr Clancy was taken to hospital in Stoke with serious injuries, however sadly, he died on October 7 and our thoughts remain with his family and friends at this difficult time.

“We are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision or who may have dash cam footage and are yet to contact us, to do so as soon as possible.”
