THE Wingmen were crowned Denbigh and District Summer Darts A-League champions following a night of high drama as the season came to a close.

Ahead of the final night, they sat joint top with Railway A, but headed the table with a +4 game difference over their down town rivals.

The Wingmen were away at Steve Gierke's experienced Masons A side, whilst the Railway A were hosted by Wings A, who still had slender hopes of claiming the title themselves.

The Wingmen's title aspirations looked in a tatters as Masons A led 3-0, whilst at the Wings Club, Railway A had built a 3-0 advantage of their own.

Knowing they needed to match or better any result Railway A posted, the Wingmen steadily played their way into game and somehow nudged themselves in front 4-3, with news from the Wings club that Railway A had recorded a 5-3 victory.

Richard Martin was last on for the Wingmen against Robin Jones and in a tight three-legged affair, Martin held his nerve to take out a fine 100 outshot to give the Wingmen a third summer title in the row to the delight of his team mates.

In what was a great campaign from Railway A in a first title challenge in many a year, they can feel unlucky not to have grabbed the title after losing just one game.

From dismay in the top tier to delight for the Railway in the B-division!

Railway B grabbed the championship in another last week thriller.

White Lion A stood two points clear as they hosted Cons B and were held to a 4-4 draw, leaving the door open for a Railway B smash and grab.

Railway B captain Andre Grief brilliantly held his nerve to serve up the all important fifth point to sensationally give them the B-league title by just a +2 game difference in what was a pulsating end of the season in both divisions.
