EDDISBURY MP Antoinette Sandbach has addressed threats received in an email after she lost a vote of confidence on Tuesday night.

Members of the Conservative Association voted against Ms Sandbach at a meeting, meaning it is likely she will not be that party's candidate for Eddisbury, which covers Malpas and Audlem, in the next election.

Ms Sandbach is currently appealing her suspension of the Tory whip, following the Prime Minister's decision to strip it off her and 20 other MPs after she voted with Opposition MPs to take control of the Commons order paper last month.

On Wednesday morning, Ms Sandbach tweeted a picture of a message she had received which included threats towards her and other remain MPs.

She has received cross-party support from MPs after posting the message.

Ms Sandbach said: "I have been overwhelmed by the messages of support from constituents following this news.

"For each and every one of these I am hugely grateful. It is messages like this that remind me how important it is to speak up and do the right thing, regardless of the cost.

"Unfortunately there have been a few less pleasant messages, from people who are not my constituents.

"That politics has become so toxic that people see fit to send lies, abuse and even death threats to me is a sign that our democracy is ailing.

"However, I have always stood up to bullies, and these kind of threats will not stop me from doing my job – representing you." In the threatening message, the sender told Ms Sandbach that she and other remain MPs, 'should keep looking over their shoulders'.

Angela Rayner, Labour MP for Ashton-under-Lyne, Droylsden, and Failsworth, and Shadow Education Minister, responded to the tweet, saying: "Disgusting stuff Antoinette, sending my solidarity to you."
