RUTHIN LADIES 5

PWLLHELI LADIES 1

A FIVE-STAR display made it a superb weekend in North Wales Hockey League action for Ruthin Ladies.

The Vale team played host to Pwllheli in a fast paced game, which ended up going 5-1 in Ruthin's favour.

Ruthin are gelling more now as a team and they are learning how to play together as a unit.

From the start, Ruthin had the majority of possession with Leah Jones running her socks off and the strong forward line attacking Pwllheli’s defence.

Within 20 minutes, the hard work paid off and a short corner was awarded, which resulted in a goal by Eleri Jones.

Elated to be in front, Ruthin relaxed a little too much and Pwllheli levelled from a short corner.

Ruthin pulled themselves together and Heledd Beech scored after Linda Harrison's initial effort had been saved.

Pwllheli team came out strongly after the interval and it took Ruthin a few minutes to gather themselves once more.

Harriet Roberts, in a new position as sweeper, played superbly, covering the space in the middle extremely well and creating some great triangle passes with the wing players.

Sian Jones sent through some superb hits from the Ruthin defence and the team’s confidence grew.

Megan Rees-Hughes added the third goal and Pwllheli, with only 11 players and no subs, were starting to tire.

Two more home goals were added to the tally, one by Linda Harrison and another for Heledd Beech, both goals being created by Llinos Jones.

The result has given Ruthin Ladies a much-needed boost in the new league and sees the team move up the table.

Harriet Roberts was the players' player of the match and the player of the match, as voted by the opposition, went to Claerwen Render.

The match ball was sponsored by Mike Parker, from Mudo Mynydd Lodges, Hendrerwydd.
