A WREXHAM band which first performed at an open mic night is to play Wales' biggest music industry event.

Members Dave Tute (Bassist), Ben Matthias (Guitar), Sam Jones (Drummer), Tom Faithfull (Singer) The Royston Club formed in January this year.

They played their first gig at an open mic event in Saith Seren and have gone on to increasingly bigger and better things since.

Having played on BBC Radio Wales, where they were likened to The Strokes, the indie rock band has also performed at the Night and Day Cafe in Manchester and the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts Student Union.

They are also lined up to play at Verve Bar in Leeds, Heebie Jeebies in Liverpool and even Focus Wales 2020.

Speaking of the band's quick growth in popularity, guitarist Ben explained: "Me, Tom and Dave went to the same high school together and we used to do jam sessions.

"Then I started writing original stuff and we thought we needed a drummer. Sam was a mutual friend, so we started playing together and that was it. "At the first gig in Saith Seren people rated us and it carried on. "The support we've had from people has really spurred us on and we just hit 100,000 streams on Spotify - the songs we have on there were recorded in a small studio but we're getting listeners all over the world.

"It's been mad, we don't even have a manager or anything. We just do everything between the four of us.

"Our second most popular country is Peru, I have no idea why but it's great."

He explained the band has just recorded four new songs at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool, which are expected to be released by mid February.
