A WREXHAM care worker who is setting out on the next stage of his career has received a timely boost in the form of a prestigious award.

Daniel Squire, 33, was among the main recipients at an awards ceremony held at City Hall, Cardiff., organised by Care Forum Wales.

The Wales Care Awards recognise outstanding work in the care sector and Daniel won gold in the category for Residential Care Practitioners, which was sponsored by Barchester Healthcare.

MC for the evening was tenor and radio presenter Wynne Evans, also known as Gio Compario from the Go Compare TV ad.

Daniel was nominated while working as a team leader with Branas Isaf, which is part of the CareTech group which provides care and support for children and young adults.

He worked at Dewis, one of the organisation’s homes in Bala, which accommodates four lads aged 15-17 with challenging behaviour.

Shortly before the ceremony, however, he took on a new post working with young adults with complex needs in Sandbach, Cheshire.

He has worked in the care sector for seven years, five of them with Wrexham County Borough Council’s social services department where he cared for children with complex problems.

He joined Branas Isaf in 2018 and took to the job immediately, impressing his superiors and, more importantly, making an impact on the lives of the youngsters.

He was thrilled to receive his award.
