PUPILS at Drury Primary had a reminder about road safety when a 44 tonne truck was parked for the day in the layby by the school.

Children from nursery right through to year six pupils got the chance to stand next to the vehicle and get an understanding of the dimensions and why that makes it dangerous.

They were also made aware of vehicle blind spots, what the driver can and cannot see, how loud the engine is and how difficult it is for a driver to hear a child shouting from inside the cab. Speaking of the practical safety session, head teacher Mark Biltcliffe said: "This was a first rate safety activity which had a real impact - and one I imagine the children will remember for a long time.

"Hopefully it will help keep our children safe when they are walking near traffic or crossing the road. I would like to thank DHL for providing this session and especially driver/trainer Mike Peers and heath and safety rep Glyn Higginson."
