A SPORTS shop, a food store and a discount retailer are to open in Flint in the near future, it has been confirmed.

Legat Owen recently released an image of the extension currently under construction at Flintshire Retail Park.

The company confirmed that - acting on behalf of Hollins Murray Group (HMG) and alongside joint agents CSP - it had signed up Sports Direct at the site, which is due to open "shortly".

This will be followed, a spokesman for the firm said, by a new Home Bargains and a Food Warehouse in the New Year.

Speaking about the letting, Legat Owen director James Lutton said: "We are pleased to see yet another national operator choose Flint Retail Park as the location for their latest store in the region.

"The Park benefits from a high footfall thanks to its location close to Flint town centre and adjacent to the Jade Jones Pavilion where the town’s library and leisure centre are also located. With the deal now completed, plans are now afoot for future expansion.

"We would hope the extension will be a boost for the town as a whole because it will retain spending in Flint and may lead more people to visit.

"There are two smaller units available and we have had good interest in getting both let ahead of completion. It's really positive."

Nick Casson, director at HMG added: "Securing Sports Direct on a 10-year lease is a real boost for the scheme and the town as a whole.

"We believe it will act as a catalyst for the rest of the scheme and we are in discussions with a number of other occupiers for vacant units / asset management initiatives."
