A HOUSE blaze which preceded the death of an elderly Mancot woman remains under investigation, fire chiefs have confirmed.

The Leader reported over the weekend how North Wales Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a blaze at an address in Prince William Gardens shortly before 9pm on Friday.

An 80-year-old woman was rescued from the property and was rushed to the Countess of Chester hospital with burns, but later died.

One resident of Prince William Gardens, who did not want to be named, told the Leader: “We were watching TV and then we saw a lot of black smoke come across the window.

“Then the fire engines, police cars and ambulances came.

“It must have been about 12 or one o’clock when they eventually left.”

Resident May Ward said: “I used to see her a few years ago and she was a lovely person.

“I was very upset to hear she had passed away and felt very sorry that she’d gone like that.

“It was a bad incident.”

A spokesman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to the Leader on Monday afternoon that the cause of the blaze is as yet unknown and remains under investigation.

Fire crews from Deeside and Buckley attended the scene to tackle the flames.
