THE best quality cattle were in very keen demand, resulting in flying trade.

A large entry of cull cows were in attendance, with trade continuing from the previous week and resulting in a very brisk trade.

More lambs were about, which also met good demand again.

THE annual Christmas sale saw excellent entries in all sections.

Judges: Cattle, E Roberts, Llanrwst; Lambs, A Jones, Butcher, Llanrwst.

The supreme champion in the cattle section went to Arwel Roberts, Ty Nant, Rhyduchaf, Bala with a Chx heifer weighing 585k selling for 350ppk to local butcher Arwel Jones, Denbigh Street, Llanrwst.

He also went on to buy the reserve champion and best native breed WB bullock weighing 585k for 290ppk from Glyn Williams, Tyddyn Deicws, Gwytherin, Abergele.

Supreme Champion in the lamb section went to Medwyn Vaughan, 2 Y Henar, Llanrwst for a pen of six Texel lambs weighing 45k and selling for £138 a head to Arwel Jones, Butcher, Denbigh Street, Llanrwst.

Reserve Texel went to G & E Jones, Garthbigau, Nant y Rhiw, Llanrwst weighing 42k and selling for £96 to D Morris, Butcher, Vale Street, Denbigh.

Best pen of Welsh lambs went to T A Williams, Rhydeidion Bach, Llansannan, Denbigh weighing 36k and it was bought by Najib & Son, Derby.

Best pen of Suffx lambs went to G Evans, Nantyglyn, Llanrwst weighing 43k and selling for £86 to Euro Quality Lamb.

CATTLE numbers were holding up well along with the trade.

Dairy trade was very firm again, with quality commanding a premium, resulting in seven heifers reaching over 1900 and 10 over 1680.

Calves were good again with plenty of buyers present.

Bryncir Christmas sale - December 4

THE annual Christmas sale of prime beef, cull cows and store cattle drew an entry of 84 cattle.

The Judge Meirion Pugh gave the overall championship to a Limx steer from Dafydd Hughes, Eithinog Wen that weighed 630k and went on to sell for 4.00ppk to the judge on behalf of his wife Carol for her catering business

at Caffi Carol, Clwb Golff Abersoch.

Reserve Champion was exhibited by Dafydd & Alaw Evans, Hendy with a Charx Steer weighing 600k selling for 2.50ppk to the judge.

Prime cattle (7):

Overall average 244.6p; Steers Med to 220 ave 201.5; Heavy to 4.00 ave 257.9.

Cull cows:

There were eight active buyers ringside which ensured a flying trade.

The champion beef cow from D Evans, Hendy, a Limx weighing 740k, sold for 1.55ppk.

An OTM heifer from H E Hughes Gweithdy Bron Eifion reached 1.70ppk.

Gaerwen Christmas prime lambs and cull ewes show and sale - December 4

MESSRS Morgan Evans & Co report an entry of 1,300 lambs and 250 cull ewes and rams.

An excellent turnout of lambs for this year's event with the prize winning section attracting strong bidding for the top quality lambs on offer.

The judge John Williams, Esless Farm, Wrexham awarded the show champion to Gareth Rowlands, Bryn Dernog, Llanddeusant with five Beltex lambs weighing 38.5k.

The championship winning pen was later sold to the judge realising a value of £114 (296ppk).

The reserve prize also went to Llanddeusant with six lambs weighing at 36.5k from Paul Barnsley, Bron Heulog securing the award.

This pen was later sold to Emyr Williams, Delfryn, Llithfaen for £120 (328ppk).

The best pair of butchers lambs class was well competed with a pair of 41k Beltex lambs from Gareth Rowlands, Bryn Dernog securing the title.

Phil Smith Esq, Cefn Ynysoedd, Llanfaglan bought the pair for £110 (268ppk).

Top prizes in the Young Farmers section went to Esyllt Carlisle, Trefonen, Caergybi for a single lamb (£80, 210ppk) and a pair of lambs from Alys Jones, Prys Owain Fawr, Llanerchymedd (£94, 213ppk).
