TWO heads have been better than one on the fairways and greens.

At the Denbighshire county golf AGM on Wednesday, father and son Marc and Keiran Shaw were presented with the Jubilee Plate trophy as the winning pair in this year’s matchplay championship.

Keiran, who only started playing last year, has already reduced his handicap to 13 and is tipped to reach single figures next season.

Since it’s introduction in 1972, this is only the second occasion a Denbigh team has won the trophy, although several have made the finals day.

This year’s final was a great occasion for the club.

Marc and Keiran defeated the fellow Denbigh pairing of Huw Parry and Paul Mazerek in the contest, which was played at the Vale of Llangollen Golf Club.

At the AGM, Vale of Llangollen's George Smith was elected as the county captain, with Jonathan P Hughes (Abergele) becoming the vice-captain.

Denbigh's Gwilym Williams is looking forward to serving his second year as county president.

In further good news for Denbigh, the club has returned to Division One of the inter-club league after promotion.

Last week saw the sixth round of the winter league at Denbigh Golf Club and it proved to be an extremely close competition.

Don Walmsley claimed victory courtesy of his 40-point tally, but he only managed to beat Frazer Jones on a card countback.

Winter league result (145 entries):

Winner, Don Walmsley 40pts. Silver: 1, Andrew O’Loughlin 39pts; 2, Dilwyn Roberts 39. Bronze: 1, Frazer Jones 40pts; 2, Hywel Jones 39. Best outside card, Adam Smith; Nearest the pin, Andrew O’Loughlin; Poison secret hole, number 4.
