HUNDREDS of Denbighshire primary school pupils have risen to the occasion to "prove" their skills in the kitchen.

The Co-op on Denbigh High Street – which re-launched earlier this year following a £1.25M restoration and refurbishment – has served-up 300 free kits for children to bake spinach and egg muffins for a mass 'Bake Off' competition at home.

Children from Ysgol Twm O’r Nant, Ysgol Pendref and, Ysgol Frongoch were invited to then share their talent for baking on social media to be in with a chance of winning one of four £50 Co-op food vouchers. Each of the schools also received a donation of £250.

The bags contained the ingredients to make the muffins, along with a chef’s hat, baking cases and Welsh flags with Ysgol Twm o'r Nant pupils Sioned Pugh Jones, Lydia Walker and Meiliv Morris as well as Alfie parry of Ysgol, Frongoch winning the completion.

Wendy Evans, a customer team member at the Co-op’s Denbigh store and also the area’s member pioneer, said: “We had a fantastic response – it was brilliant.

"As a community retailer we are committed to making a difference and, playing an active role in the area.

"We look for ways to create value locally and we know that the children really enjoyed it! Baking at home is a great way for families to spend time together and, enjoy delicious food.”

The winners were invited into the store on Thursday, December 12 to collect their prizes.
