WHILE many children look forward to getting presents from Santa Claus on Christmas Day, one pupil has designed a card that recalls the birth of Jesus Christ.
Clwyd West assembly member Darren Millar’s annual Christmas card competition received entries from hundreds of children in the constituency. The theme was animals and the cards included colourful sketches of reindeer and robins in the snow.
However it was Seven-year-old Wil Roberts, from Ysgol Carreg Emlyn in Clocaenog, near Ruthin, who was declared the winner for his picture of Jesus in a manger surrounded by cattle, including the ‘little donkey’, with the shining star of Bethlehem in the sky.
Mr Millar said Wil’s effort “captured the true essence of Christmas”.
“As always the standard of entries was extremely high and I would like to thank all those who took the time to come up with such brilliant designs,” he said. “Unfortunately, there could only be one winner and this year it was Wil whose design stood out to me the most.
“I particularly liked it because it captured the true essence of Christmas by having Jesus at the centre. I am sure that everyone who receives my Christmas card this year will also impressed when they see Wil’s design.”
Wil was awarded a prize of family tickets to visit the Welsh Mountain Zoo, Conwy.
