A STORAGE giant that has 3,000 containers from Anglesey to Shrewsbury has expanded to open its 18th site amid a booming demand for its service.

Denbigh firm Lock Stock, the UK’s biggest containerised self-storage company, will launch its 150-unit park in Caernfarfon in January. The dark green crates offer round-the-clock storage space for businesses, homeowners and students who need extra space while they move premises or need to lock up property such as vehicles.

The new 1.1-acre facility on the Gwynedd town’s Cibyn Industrial Estate follows recent openings in Sandycroft and Flint in Flintshire. The company also has a storage park on Colomendy Industrial Estate, Denbigh, and in Rhyl, Mold, Wrexham, Holyhead, Bangor, Llandudno, Newtown and Oswestry.

Jeff Woods, Lock Stock commercial manager, said the business is “organically by responding to demand”.

“Our sites at Bangor and Llandudno Junction are very popular and it makes sense to extend our service along the North Wales Coast,” said Mr Woods.

“We pride ourselves on the great service we offer, the convenience, the round-the-clock access and the security and believe this is why our existing sites are receiving more and more enquiries for storage space and we are reacting to meet that demand.

“We also look to see where the demand is coming from and if it is from somewhere we don’t already have a storage park as is the case with Caernarfon then we look at finding a suitable site.”

The Cibyn storage park is equipped with an office, security fencing, lighting and cameras and keyless 24-hour access. Meanwhile the containers, which are eight-foot-tall and wide, with lengths varying from 10 to 40 feet, are fully insulated and watertight.

Many of the units are a by-product of the UK’s trade with China – most are Chinese-built and made the 12,000-mile, seven-week sea journey via the Suez Canal.

“Many of our customers are people in the process of moving house who may need it on a flexible basis or for short-term use but increasingly we are seeing businesses, especially small businesses using them,” added Mr Woods.

“They find them ideal for operating from because there are no business rates or service charges and with three different sizes of units they’re ideal whether people are looking to grow or to downsize.

“They can often operate from a storage unit, calling there to stock up in the morning before going out to jobs and that is one reason we plan our sites very carefully so that our tenants can easily access their units 24/7.”

As well as offering units to hire on their sites they sell a range of used and new containers delivered by lorry.
