Walkers can now view the highest piece of artwork in Denbighshire.

A group of artists painted the trig point at the summit of Moel Famau, located in the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Straying from the traditional plain white colour of most trig points in the UK, it has been transformed into a work of art, depicting the natural world, by the Country Park Painters.

Each member of the group had produced a silhouette of an animal, bird or insect found within the AONB, which is jointly managed by Denbighshire County Council along with Flintshire and Wrexham county councils.

Denbighshire councillor Tony Thomas, chair of the AONB’s joint committee, said: “I’d like to thank the Country Park Painters for their work decorating the trig point.

“Moel Famau and the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB are a great resource for residents and visitors alike providing fantastic outdoor spaces to enjoy.

“This art work helps enhance the experience at Moel Famau and I would encourage those walking to the summit to take a look.”

The summit of Moel Famau stands at 554 metres and the designs were stencilled onto the trig point, painted using black on white to give the best visual impact and then sealed and made weatherproof.

The art group is based in Llanferres and meet every week at Loggerheads Country Park.

John Roberts, a member of the Friends of the AONB group, said: “The work is a lovely representation of the some of the varied wildlife to be found in our wonderful AONB.

“It will provide a talking point for the many visitors to Moel Famau’s popular summit and children especially will love guessing what’s depicted.

“I would like to thank the Country Park Painters, staff from the AONB and all those who helped with this project.”
