OUTDOOR tourists could soon have a luxury retreat in the Vale of Clwyd following plans for a series of holiday studios.

The Building Plot Ltd has submitted a planning application for eight luxury pods on Lleweni Parc, three miles north-east of Denbigh, on behalf of landowner Mr R Witter. The design and access statement said the 1.9-acre site would “cater for the high demand from gliding enthusiasts” as well as visitors “seeking rural holidays and utilising the extensive outdoor pursuits available within the locality”.

The studios, made from timber cladding and tile, would feature an en-suite bedroom, sitting area, kitchenette, utility, drying room and external decking area.

The statement said the pods would be made using “green credentials” including “materials, construction methods, low embodied energy, and carbon savings”.

The developer hopes to take advantage of Denbighshire’s “growing reputation in the outdoor activity sector” amid expectations of a growing domestic tourist sector in the coming years.

“The applicant therefore wishes to grasp the opportunity to develop self-catering units to increase the range of quality accommodation to meet changing market demand, and support a thriving tourism economy,” the statement said.

It added that the development would provide a “valuable addition” to Llewen Parc with “a peaceful and restful retreat set within a rural landscape that aims to contribute to the users’ wellbeing”.

The pods, it said, would “take advantage of some of the latest environmentally friendly products available in the form of heating and electrical design, and materials”, while low energy systems “will be considered”.

There is already an existing access point by car, while the site links to footpaths that lead to the surrounding countryside. The statement said the land is located “within a small valley of unused land which is somewhat overgrown” and has no marked importance to biodiversity.
