IT'S ALMOST time to choose the first of Rhyl's royal family of the decade.

As the town's carnival nears it's 130th anniversary in 2021, the Choosing of the Rhyl Royal Family on Saturday, February 1 at the Beach House Fun Club, on Russell Road at 2pm.

The time tested February tradition will select the town's May Queen for the carnival - which has been in planning since last September - with the Rhyl Carnival Association (RCA) also seeking boys and girls for the roles of Prince, Petal, Rosebud, Princess and Empress.

The new, smaller royal family will replace outgoing May Queen Summer Heywood, Empress Molly Roberts, Emperor Steven Roberts, Princess Esme Griffiths, Rosebud Grace-Leigh Lewis, Petal Dixie Rawlinson, Prince Kenley Davies, Cymru Rose Maria Murphy, Cymru Petal Olivia Mae Lewis and Miss Rhyl Chloe Lee.

A spokesperson for the RCA said: "We are looking for boys and girls between the age of four and 13 to represent Rhyl in the coming months."

The future royal family will spend the next 12 months appearing at a variety of community events, as well as at the carnival, and will receive training from the RCA for other duties including fundraising and performing at carol services and visiting the elderly over Christmas.
