YOUNG volunteers have planted 60 native trees at the Mooring Basin in Llangollen.
Llangollen Scouts cleared litter and planted trees donated from the Woodland Trust to create a new woodland shaw at the Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty site. They also added compost and guards to conserve existing trees.
The project forms part of Our Picturesque Landscape, a National Lottery Heritage (NLH)-funded scheme which aims to carry out environmental projects in tourist hotspots. It is joint-led by the Denbighshire Countryside Service and Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB authority.
Richard Bellamy, director of the NLH Fund Wales, said: “The tree planting that the scouts have done is an excellent example of how young people can get involved, develop new skills, connect with their communities and have fun.”
