HISTORY enthusiasts are being sought to help with three Flintshire projects.

Research successfully undertaken into Holywell High Street and the Spelter Zinc Works in Greenfield have encouraged the Holywell and District Society’s research group, to broaden its areas of investigation.

For this, the group needs to enlarge its number of enthusiasts who will be made very welcome and given all the support they need from research officer Ray Bailey and group chairman Ray Hamer.

They have three areas in mind.

A spokesman eplained: “The first involves Wat’s Dyke, a 1,200 year old monument which terminates at Basingwerk, having run through Flintshire to the Greenfield Valley.

“Its precise original route, however, is unknown and the upcoming Festival of Archeology and the Offa’s Dyke Collaboratory could bring this research project well to the fore in national importance.

“A real challenge awaits anyone interested in The Greenfield Dock, as previous attempts to research it have failed.”

Anyone interested is invited to contact Ray Bailey on 01352 710787 to discuss any contributions they can make.

Those interested in the group’s general area are welcome to attend Holywell and District Society’s next event on Saturday, February 1.
