FLINTSHIRE pupils aim to change the planet one crisp packet at a time.

Ysgol Mynydd Isa’s eco council have been hard at work collecting used crisp packets to be recycled, that would have otherwise potentially ended up in landfill.

Teacher Sian Caldwell told the Leader: “Our crisp packet recycling scheme was set up this year by our Eco council members and so far, we have recycled around 20 kg of packets.

“We collect them in school and then one of the teachers takes them home- then a courier picks them up free of charge. This is arranged by Terra Recycle, which we have signed up to as a charity.”

It is hoped this will soon be made available to the wider Mynydd Isa community and surrounding areas.

Sian added: “One of our eco school aims this year is to develop a recycling area within the school.

“We are a Green flag school and this is a part of the project to keep our awarded green flag status. We discussed different ideas such as outdoor play areas, reduced plastic waste and an outdoor library.

“This is the first mission we have chosen to run with this school year. Later in the year we may have a walk to school week, meat free Mondays and an outdoor library in the summer.

“Members of the community would be able to drop them off directly at the school any time during the day and in the warmer/dryer months we could possibly have an outside recycling point.”
