TWO teenagers have appeared in court on Wednesday (February 6) accused of causing the death by dangerous driving of a girl of 17 who was an A level student and deputy head girl of a school.

Thomas Quick, 18, of Clawddnewydd, Ruthin, North Wales, and a boy of 17 also from the Vale of Clwyd, are accused following the death of Olivia Alkir last June. She died after a two-car smash on the B5105 at Efenechtyd, near Ruthin.

The pair also face four allegations of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

They were remanded on unconditional bail by magistrates at Llandudno until March 6 at Mold crown court.

A defence lawyer indicated guilty pleas for Quick.

Paying tribute to Olivia, a pupil at Ysgol Brynhyfryd, in the wake of tragedy, her family said: "She was a natural ‘water baby’ having spent her summers in her father’s native Turkey where she would spend the days swimming in the sea.

"Olivia was beautiful inside and out and the world was a better place because of her.”
