Denbigh

A ROTARY competition proved to be extremely popular with youngsters.

The Youth Speaks competition, organised by the Rotary Club of Denbigh, was held at St Brigid's School, in Denbigh, recently.

A total of three teams took part in both the intermediate and senior sections.

All of the teams present gave good performances, with the topics being quite challenging.

Judges were Adele Thomas, Judge Mike Baker and Lyndsey Tasker, and they took some time to come to their decisions as only 10 marks separated the teams in the intermediate group, with a similar situation in the senior section.

The winning team in the intermediate section was from Myddelton College, as were the winners in the Senior group.

The award for the best speaker on the night was given to Madison Ellis, from Myddelton College.

She was only drafted into her team on the morning of the competition, but gave a masterly performance as 'proposer' of quite a challenging motion. As the district finals could not be held this year, the winning teams were unfortunately unable to progress any further in this Rotary competition.
